Game 27: Ducks vs. Revolution

DE6I2882.JPGGAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 pm at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, N.Y.)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (12-14) look to complete a three-game sweep of the York Revolution (9-16) tonight at Bethpage Ballpark. The Ducks and Revs are face each other for the 10th and final time in the first half tonight, with the next meeting taking place on July 31 at York. Long Island possesses a 7-2 record against York in the first nine matchups of the year, with the Ducks having taken the last three.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP: The Long Island Ducks pounded out 12 hits as they defeated the York Revolution 6-3 Wednesday night at Bethpage Ballpark.

In the bottom of the first, Elmer Reyes pulled a double over the third base bag to score Angelo Songco and give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. In the third, Reyes added an RBI single to center plating Delta Cleary Jr. to advance the lead to 2-0 Long Island.

Anthony Vega smacked a two-out triple to center with two outs in the fourth, and he later scored on a Dan Lyons single to put the Ducks up 3-0. It was the first triple of the season for the Ducks, and the first of two on the night for Vega.

The Ducks pulled ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth, when Alex Burg doubled off Joe Van Meter to plate two. The runs were charged to Revolution starter Victor Mateo, who was hung with his third loss of the season.

Long Island starter John Brownell (2-0) delivered a strong outing, allowing two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings despite not having his best stuff. Rob Rogers escaped a first-and-third, two-out jam in the sixth to close out a York threat.

The Ducks promptly responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Cleary Jr. doubled to score Vega and expand the lead to 6-2.

The Revolution retaliated with a run in the top of the seventh off Eury De La Rosa, but Tyler Wilson bailed out the lefty to hold the score at 6-3. Chin-Hui Tsao worked a scoreless top of the ninth to record his first Ducks save.

ON THE MOUND: The Ducks go for the sweep behind right-handed pitcher Matt Larkins tonight, who is 0-2 with a 6.50 ERA in five appearances (four starts). His stats are unduely influenced by one poor outing against Southern Maryland, and in his last start, the Idaho resident allowed two runs in five innings at New Britain and got the loss. Larkins has faced the Revolution once this season in  a relief appearance on May 3, allowing three runs in an inning of work.

York answers with right-handed pitcher Ty’Relle Harris, making his seventh appearance of the season and fourth start. The righty has had a rough go of it this season, posting an 0-2 record with an unsightly 8.21 ERA. Harris has faced the Ducks twice this season already, and has allowed five runs in three innings in one start and one relief appearance. The 6-4 hurler is in his third season with the Revolution.
