Alex Burg powered the Ducks to victory last night with his third home run of the season.

GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at New Britain Stadium (New Britain, Conn.)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (9-11) hit the road for a quick four-game trip to New Britain Stadium to take on the New Britain Bees (5-14). After a thrilling win last night, the Ducks begin their second series of the season with the New Britain, who took two of three from Long Island at Bethpage Ballpark last month. The Bees return home after a six-game road trip to Texas where they lost five of six to the Sugar Land Skeeters.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP: The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 4-3 Wednesday night to salvage the final game of a three-game series and head into the weekend on a high note.

The Ducks initially took the lead in the bottom of the second by erupting for three runs against York starter Curtis Partch. Giovanny Alfonzo delivered an RBI single, Fehlandt Lentini doubled, and Delta Cleary Jr. had a sac fly to account for the runs.

Long Island starter Tim Melville cruised through five innings, but hit some static in the sixth, when he allowed a game-tying three-run home run to Isaias Tejeda. Melville was taken out of the game after the wall-scraper, having tossed 5.1 innings. Zac Treece retired the final two batters of the frame to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the sixth, Alex Burg crushed a solo home run to left off Partch (0-3) to put the Ducks back on top 4-3.

Treece, Jim Fuller and Chin-Hui Tsao bridged the gap to David Aardsma who set the Revolution down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning to notch his third save of the season and end the Ducks five-game losing skid.

ON THE MOUND: The Ducks try to keep the momentum going by turning to ace John Brownell. The righty is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in his four starts this season. After a challenging first inning, Brownell threw a quality start against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in his last start on May 6, allowing two runs in six innings. He also struck out a season-high seven batters. This will be Brownell’s first start against the Bees this season, but he went 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA against them last year, and threw three complete games.

The Bees counter with Eric Fornataro, who is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in the early going this season. Tonight marks the righty’s fourth start of the season, after he appeared in 35 games exclusively as a reliever for New Britain in 2016. Fornataro has allowed 19 hits in 13.1 innings, and has struck out six and walked three. In his last start on May 6 at Sugar Land, the former Nationals and Cardinals prospect allowed just two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings in a 3-2 Bees loss.
