Game 18: Ducks vs. Revolution
Nolan Reimold and the Ducks look to find their swing against the York Revolution
GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, N.Y.)
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (8-9) look to shake a three-game losing skid as they begin a new series with the York Revolution (6-10) tonight. The Ducks swept the Revolution in a four-game series at PeoplesBank Park in York last week and hope to return to their winning ways once again.
YESTERDAY’S RECAP: The Long Island Ducks struck out 11 Southern Maryland Blue Crabs batters, but they fell 8-2 in the finale of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Blue Crabs got off to a quick start, scoring four runs in the first against Ducks starter Matt Larkins. The first six batters of the game all reached on singles, but the righty was able to settle down and retire the next three batters without further damage.
Long Island got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Nolan Reimold blasted a solo home run to left field off Southern Maryland starter Justin De Fratus to cut the deficit to 4-1. The round-tripper was the eight-year MLB veteran’s second of the season.
Southern Maryland got to Larkins (0-1) again in the top of the fourth, plating another four runs and chasing the Ducks starter from the game before he could record an out. Tyler Wilson allowed three inherited runners to score as the Blue Crabs batted around for the second time in the game and took an 8-1 lead.
De Fratus (3-1) lasted five innings, allowing just one run on four hits, walking one and striking out one. However, all four hits the Ducks registered against the righty were extra-base hits.
Wilson (three innings), Patrick Crider, Amalio Diaz, and Rob Rogers (one inning each) combined out of the Ducks bullpen to hold the Blue Crabs scoreless after the fourth.
In the ninth, Giovanny Alfonzo brought home Cody Puckett with a sacrifice fly to narrow the gap to 8-2, but the Ducks could not muster anything else against reliever Jesse Beal.
Reimold had the best day at the plate for Long Island, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Ducks pitching struck out double digits for the third straight game.
ON THE MOUND: The Ducks hand the ball to former big leaguer Rafael Perez, who seeks his second consecutive win. Perez is coming off his best start of the season, which came in York on May 2. He earned the win, lasting seven innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. The southpaw is 1-0 on the season with a 5.65 ERA and has struck out nine while walking four in 14 and one-third innings pitched this season. Tonight marks the fourth start of the season for Perez.
York will feature a lefty of their own on the bump tonight, sending Frank Gailey to the hill. Gailey will also be making his fourth start of the season and is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA so far. He opposed Perez and the Ducks in his last outing on May 2 and surrendered six runs (four earned) on nine hits in four innings, getting tagged with the loss. The southpaw has allowed just one earned run in his other two starts this season combined, spanning 11 innings. Gailey is in his third season with York.
