GAME TIME/LOCATION: 8:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field (Sugar Land, Texas)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks travel to Texas for Game One of the Atlantic League Championship Series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. It’s the first time that the Ducks and Skeeters are meeting in the championship series. Long Island returned from an 0-2 deficit, rallying to beat Somerset three games to two for the Liberty Division Championship. Sugar Land swept the York Revolution in three games, clinching on road turf.

SERIES PREVIEW: 2016 marks Long Island’s fifth appearance in the Atlantic League Championship Series and Sugar Land’s second appearance. The Ducks and Skeeters met 20 times in the regular season with Long Island winning 11 games and Sugar Land winning nine. In the first half, in which the Ducks won the Liberty Division, Long Island took seven of 10 contests. However, Sugar Land won the second half head-to-head, stealing six of 10. Sugar Land has a slim hold on the all-time series, winning 50 of 99 games since 2012. The home team has dominated the series, as well. Long Island is 30-19 against Sugar Land at Bethpage Ballpark, while the Skeeters have a 31-19 record against the Ducks at Constellation Field.

ON THE MOUND: Bobby Blevins makes his first start of the 2016 postseason, having last taken the hill in a regular season game on September 13 against the Skeeters. Blevins suffered the loss on the road in that contest, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts over seven innings. The right-hander has pitched in four postseason contests with the Ducks. Blevins was victorious for Long Island in Game Three of the 2015 Liberty Division Championship Series against the Somerset Patriots. He gave the Ducks a 2-1 series lead thanks to seven strikeouts in six innings, yielding four runs on four hits and three walks.

Jake Hale, the 6-foot-7 righty out of Albany, Ohio, makes his postseason debut. Hale won six of his 15 starts for Sugar Land, including his final regular season game. On September 17 against Southern Maryland, Hale fired six terrific innings of three-hit ball, allowing one run and three walks with two strikeouts in a 4-1 Skeeters win. Hale met the Ducks at Constellation Field on September 12, pitching one of his worst outings of the year. The Ducks scored 11 runs on 13 hits against Hale in just four and two-thirds innings. However, the 30-year-old beat Long Island on July 29 at Bethpage Ballpark. He tossed eight innings of six-hit ball with four strikeouts, surrendering three runs.
