GAME TIME/LOCATION: 1:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, N.Y.)

TODAY’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (26-36, 66-66) look to salvage the final game of a three-game from the York Revolution (34-27, 74-57). Sunday marks the final home game of the regular season for the Ducks, who have posted a 40-29 record at the Duck Pond. Long Island’s home batting average stands at .284 which ranks second in the league behind York’s .285 clip. The Revolution sits in first place in the Freedom Division, holding a half-game lead over the Sugar Land Skeeters, while the Ducks sit behind Somerset, New Britain, and Bridgeport in the Liberty Division.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: The York Revolution stunned the Ducks and 7,220 fans at Bethpage Ballpark, scoring five runs in the eighth inning en route to a 6-5 victory.

Long Island scored three runs in the opening inning for the first time since August 25. Against York starter Tony Pena, Delta Cleary Jr.’s run-scoring groundout and Ruben Gotay’s two-run single accounted for the runs. Anthony Vega’s RBI triple down the left field line made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

York did not score against Ducks starter Matt Larkins until the fifth inning when Keith Castillo was plated from third base on a passed ball, making it 4-1.

In the eighth, the Revolution rallied for a big inning. Josh Wilson’s run-scoring double cut the deficit to two, while Jared Mitchell’s three-run home run to right field gave York its first lead at 5-4. Kevin Rivers added a solo shot in the inning as well, increasing the Revs’ lead to 6-4.

Against closer Mike DeMark in the ninth, Mike Dowd tripled and came home on a wild pitch. However, Anthony Vega grounded out to first base, ending the inning and the game.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Larkins lasted seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while fanning six. Pena gave up four runs on eight hits, striking out five over six frames. Michael Click’s scoreless seventh allowed him to pick up the victory, while Luis Perdomo took the loss. Perdomo surrendered two runs on three hits in one inning. DeMark’s ninth inning resulted in his 35th save.

Dowd and Lew Ford each had two hits for the Ducks.

ON THE MOUND: Nick Struck meets the Revolution for the second time in three weeks. His past meeting against the Atlantic League’s top team resulted in a victory. Struck was tremendous, tossing seven scoreless innings en route to a 3-0 Long Island win. The righty hander struck out four and walked three, giving up just three hits. Since that start, Struck has dropped two consecutive decisions, losing Lancaster and Bridgeport. However, despite the losses, the Oregon native has allowed three earned runs in 12 and one-third innings, fanning five. In those two previous starts, the Ducks have combined to score just three runs.

Micah Owings, who struck out 10 Ducks in his past meeting with Long Island, makes his 18th start of the year. The former major leaguer has picked up four wins in his past six outings, including a six shutout-inning performance against the Ducks on August 27. In a 13-0 York win, Owings allowed just four hits and three walks. Against Southern Maryland in his most recent outing, Owings fired seven and one-third innings of four-hit ball, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts and two walks. York picked up the 4-3 win on September 6.
