Game 131: Ducks vs. Revolution
GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, N.Y.)
TODAY’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (26-34, 66-64) meet the York Revolution (32-27, 72-57) for a three-game series, representing the final regular season series for the Ducks. York has topped Long Island in nine of the 13 head-to-head meetings, but the two teams have split the past six contests. Offensively, Fehlandt Lentini’s .340 average leads the Flock against the Revs, while Cody Puckett has driven in seven runs. On the bump recently, Long Island starters have compiled a 2.01 earned run average over the past seven games.
YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Welington Dotel’s 10th-inning solo homer broke a 1-1 tie, sending the Bluefish past the Ducks 2-1 in the series finale.
Daniel Herrera tossed eight scoreless innings for Long Island, tallying 140 pitches. The left-hander surrendered six hits and five walks, while striking out two. Long Island’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning against Jonathan Albaladejo when Lew Ford’s sacrifice fly and RBI drove in Delta Cleary Jr.
Long Island’s 1-0 lead held until the top of the ninth inning when Bridgeport tied the game. Against Amalio Diaz, Geraldo Valentin hit a solo home run to left field to make it 1-1. In the top of the 10th, Dotel crushed a solo blast to right-center field off Patrick Crider. It was the first home run Crider allowed all season.
In the bottom of the 10th, the Flock rallied to load the bases against Bluefish closer David Carpenter. Ruben Gotay and Anthony Vega walked, while Fehlandt Lentini was hit by a pitch. However, Cleary Jr. popped out in foul territory, ending the threat and the game.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Albaladejo lasted seven innings, yielding one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Sam Gervacio earned the win for Bridgeport, tossing a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts. Crider suffered the loss, allowing one run in one-third of an inning.
Cleary Jr.’s two hits led the Ducks, while Lentini added a stolen base.
ON THE MOUND: In search of his 10th win of the season, right-hander John Brownell gets the start for Long Island. The Nebraska native has taken losses in three of his past four starts, but has posted a solid 3.62 earned run average over the stretch. His past win came two starts ago, on August 29 in Lancaster, when Brownell fired seven innings of one-run ball. The 33-year-old has seen York twice, but has yet to record a victory. Brownell has struck out 15 in 14 innings, surrendering five earned runs on 15 hits.
California native Ty’Relle Harris makes his second start against the Ducks. His most recent meeting with the Flock came on June 30 when the righty allowed five runs on five hits in three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking three. Harris has compiled just two wins since that date. His most recent victory came against the Somerset Patriots on August 18. The former Tennessee Volunteer fired six and two-thirds scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 2-0 York victory.
