GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The York Revolution (25-20, 65-50) of the Freedom Division returns to Bethpage Ballpark to open up a three-game series with the Long Island Ducks (21-24, 61-54). The Ducks have dropped seven of the 10 meetings so far with 10 more games to play against the Revs. The last head-to-head meeting, a series on Long Island in late June, resulted in the Ducks taking two of three games. Fehlandt Lentini and Tyler Colvin have combined for a .365 batting average against York this season, while Cody Puckett has driven in a team-high seven runs.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Despite fighting back from a four-run deficit, the Ducks dropped the series finale to the Blue Crabs, losing 7-6.

Down 5-1 in the bottom of the second, the Ducks mounted a comeback. Mike Blanke’s two-run home run to left field, his ninth of the season, pulled Long Island within two runs. Fehlandt Lentini made it 5-4 with an RBI single which scored Anthony Vega. Three innings later, in the fifth, Mike Dowd tied the ballgame at five with an RBI single.

However, Southern Maryland grabbed two decisive runs in the seventh. Michael Snyder and Jamar Walton each drove in runs with run-scoring singles, giving the Blue Crabs a 7-5 lead. Long Island cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the inning on Delta Cleary Jr.’s sacrifice fly, but could not muster the full comeback.

Ducks starter Daniel Herrera did not factor into the decision, but lasted six innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Gaby Hernandez was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs (five earned on nine hits and a walk. He struck out four in six innings. Reliever Patrick Crider took the loss, yielding two runs on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Blue Crabs closer Cody Eppley collected his 25th save in the ninth, tossing a scoreless frame.

Lentini, Blanke, and Tyler Colvin each collected two hits, while Vega scored two runs.

ON THE MOUND: Nick Struck makes his fifth start and fourth consecutive for the Ducks. The right-hander, who has transitioned from reliever to starter, is 0-1 with a 4.26 ERA as a starting pitcher. The Oregon native tossed five and one-third innings against Sugar Land on August 20, striking out four and walking one. The righty did not get a decision, despite allowing just two runs on four hits in the Ducks’ 5-4 victory. On August 14 against Lancaster, Struck fanned a season-high seven batters, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings. Long Island bats did not support Struck, who exited the ballgame trailing 3-0 in an eventual 12-0 loss to the Barnstormers.

Former big leaguer Tony Pena enters tonight’s game having won two of his past three starts. With a myriad of runs behind him, Pena tossed six innings of six-hit ball, allowing two runs with two strikeouts in his past outing. He improved to 7-7 in the 12-3 victory over Lancaster on August 19. Pena is coming off of a tough stretch of seven consecutive losses. From June 12-August 4, Pena lost seven of his 10 starts, receiving just 2.9 runs from his offense. Pena’s earned run average sat at 7.06 during the stretch. Against the Ducks, the Dominican is 1-1, allowing six runs on 15 hits in 14 innings with 12 strikeouts.

  1. Good game tonight. The pitching finally after a drought of wins, held York Revolution to no runs and the hitting came through in the clutch. Two home runs (one solo and one two run) were all the Duck needed to win.
