Game 113: Ducks vs. Blue Crabs


GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (20-22, 60-52) open up a three-game series with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (19-24, 45-68). The Ducks have owned the series this season against the Blue Crabs, outscoring Southern Maryland 104-54. Long Island boasts a 12-5 record against its Freedom Division counterpart, winning six of seven at home. Dan Lyons has hit a whopping .385 with three home runs and seven RBI in 14 games against Southern Maryland, while Fehlandt Lentini has driven in 17 runs in 17 games this season.

SUNDAY’S RESULT: Long Island dropped the final game of a four-game series to the Sugar Land Skeeters 11-1.

Ruben Gotay’s two-out run-scoring single gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, Sugar Land tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Wilfredo Rodriguez’s fielder’s choice.

The Skeeters scored ten unanswered runs on 15 total hits. Leadoff hitter Josh Prince was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run. Both Johan Limonta and Albert Cordero went 3-for-4, combing for five runs batted in.

Ducks starter Mike Jackson Jr. suffered his first loss of the year, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in five and one-third innings. He fanned five and walked one. Sugar Land’s Michael Nix surrendered one runs on five hits and a walk, striking out six over six innings in the victory.

Cody Puckett collected a pair of hits to lead the Flock.

ON THE MOUND: Bobby Blevins makes his 18th start of the season and third against the Blue Crabs. Blevins’ lone win this year came against Southern Maryland on April 28. The right-hander struck out three over five innings, surrendering three runs (one earned) on six hits en route to a 6-4 victory. On May 15 against the Blue Crabs, Blevins pitched well, but did not receive a decision. The 31-year-old fanned six over six innings, yielding six runs on two hits and two walks.

Tim Sexton faces Long Island for the fifth time. His past meeting with the Ducks, on July 7 in Maryland, resulted in five and two-third innings of eight hit ball. He allowed three runs and three walks with three strikeouts. The Baltimore native did not get a decision. Sexton searches for his first win since June 22 when the former Dodgers prospect allowed one run over seven innings with in a 2-1 win.

UPDATE (7:54): BOT 4: The Ducks pour on five runs in the inning! Long Island leads Southern Maryland 9-1. Lentini highlights it with a three-run double.

UPDATE (8:47): Tonight’s game has been suspended due to a technical issue with the third base light tower. The game will be resumed Wednesday at 6 p.m. Tickets for tonight’s game can be exchanged for equal or lesser value at the Bethpage Ballpark Box Office for any remaining 2016 regular or postseason Ducks game.
