_E6I4762

GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (18-13, 58-43) and Somerset Patriots (16-17, 54-49) meet for the 20th and final time in the regular season. The Ducks own a 10-9 advantage to date and can clinch the season series with a win tonight. After winning the first two games of the current series, Long Island fell last night, following a two-hour, one minute rain delay prior to first pitch.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Behind three home runs, the Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks, 7-4, in the third game of a four-game series.

David Vidal launched a two-run home run off Eury De La Rosa in the first inning, giving Somerset a 2-0 lead. The Ducks cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second on a throwing error.

Long Island jumped in front 3-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Ruben Gotay and Mike Dowd each doubled to drive in a run. However, Somerset took the lead back with a two-run homer from Aharon Eggleston in the fifth. Yovan Gonzalez extended the lead to 6-3 with a two-run double in the sixth. After both teams exchanged runs in the sixth and seventh, Jon Hunton induced three groundouts in the ninth to collect the save.

Delta Cleary Jr. and Dowd tallied three hits, while Gotay drove in a pair of runs.

Rudy Owens struck out six over five and one-third innings en route to the win. The lefty allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. De La Rosa took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

ON THE MOUND: Bobby Blevins looks to snap a three-game losing streak as he faces Somerset for the fourth time.In his most recent start, the right-hander allowed nine runs on seven hits in five innings, striking out two and walking two in a 14-6 loss to Bridgeport on August 6. In three outings against the Patriots, Blevins has struck out nine in 13.2 innings, allowing 13 runs on 14 hits. From June 18-July 26, Blevins allowed two or less earned runs in each appearance, however, he received only three runs of support per outing.

Will Oliver, one of the top pitchers in the Atlantic League, puts his 2.76 earned run average to the test. Oliver has not pitched enough innings to qualify for the league’s top 10, but his ERA mark would rank third. The Newport Beach, California native allowed one run on eight hits in eight innings in his past start, on August 5 at Sugar Land. He fanned three and walked one in an 11-1 win. His only meeting with the Ducks came on July 15 at Bethpage Ballpark. The righty did not receive a decision, but allowed just two runs in six innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
