GAME TIME/LOCATION: 5:05 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (13-8, 53-38) try to split the series against the Sugar Land Skeeters (14-10, 49-45) as the four-game series concludes Sunday. This evening is the final matchup at Bethpage Ballpark in the regular season, with the Ducks owning a 30-18 all-time record against the Skeeters on Long Island. Each of the past four games has been decided by three runs or less, with both teams winning two games apiece.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Ducks relievers stepped up to shut out the Skeeters 2-0 in the third game of a four-game series in Central Islip.

Long Island scored the go-ahead runs in the fifth. With runners at second and third, Delta Cleary Jr. lined a base hit to center field, bringing in Mike Blanke and Anthony Vega.

The Ducks used seven pitchers to combine for the shutout. Making a spot start, Eury De La Rosa fired three innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts. Scott Shuman collected the victory with a scoreless fifth, fanning one and walking one. Danny Burawa, Patrick Crider, James Lomangino, and Kyle Hansen each fired scoreless frames in relief. Sean Gallagher took the loss, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out five over six innings. Todd Coffey tallied his 17th save with a scoreless ninth, inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

Vega and Ruben Gotay each had two hits apiece for Long Island.

ON THE MOUND: Bobby Blevins takes the mound having posted a 2.70 ERA in his past 26 and two-thirds innings. The right-hander is in search of his first victory since April 28 when he beat Southern Maryland. The 31-year-old has allowed two or less earned runs in his past five starts. Blevins’ most recent outing, on July 26, resulted in four runs (two earned) on a season-high 11 hits. He struck out four and walked one in a 4-1 Ducks loss. Sunday is Blevins’ first meeting with Sugar Land this season.

Former Minnesota Twins pitcher Aaron Thompson gets the baseball for the Skeeters. The left-hander faces the Ducks for the fourth time. He’s 0-2 with a 4.86 ERA against Long Island and 5-1 with a 3.88 ERA against the rest of the Atlantic League. Thompson allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in seven and two-third innings against the Ducks on July 2. He suffered the loss in the 6-1 Long Island victory, his most recent outing versus the Ducks.
