GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (12-8, 52-38) look to snap a two-game slide in game three of four against the Sugar Land Skeeters (14-9, 49-44). The Ducks still hold a one-game lead over the Somerset Patriots for first place in the Liberty Division, while the Skeeters continue to grow their first-place lead in the Freedom Division, leading by two games. Despite Sugar Land’s two straight victories in the series, Long Island has won five of the past seven.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: A ninth-inning rally fell one run short as the Ducks dropped a 4-3 decision to the Skeeters in game two of a four-game series.

Ricky Hague’s three-run blast to left off Dustin Richardson gave Sugar Land a 3-0 lead in first inning. An RBI bloop single by Jeremy Barfield in the fifth pushed the lead to four. The Ducks pulled one run closer with a solo home run by Dan Lyons in the bottom of the frame.

In the ninth, Anthony Vega’s solo home run and Cody Puckett’s run-scoring single made it 4-3. However, the Ducks grounded into a double play to end the threat and the ballgame.

Sugar Land’s Jake Hale was tremendous over eight innings, giving up two runs on six hits and four strikeouts in the win. Richardson suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk. In five innings, the left-hander struck out six. Derek Loop earned his 21st save in the ninth.

ON THE MOUND: Ducks lefty Eury De La Rosa makes his first start for Long Island. The Dominican Republic native has made a name for himself as a lefty specialist in the bullpen, posting a 2.91 ERA in 36 appearances. The former big leaguer with the Arizona Diamondbacks has not pitched more than an inning of work this season, but has made 12 starts. His most recent start was in 2015 with San Antonio, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. De La Rosa tossed six scoreless innings of one-hit ball, striking out three and walking one.

Sean Gallagher faces the Ducks for the third time this season. Gallagher has truly dominated Long Island this season, striking out 20 in 21 innings, allowing three earned runs on 14 hits. His most recent head-to-head battle with the Ducks came on July 1 at Bethpage Ballpark. The Boston native struck out nine over six innings, allowing five hits and one walk. Despite Gallagher’s nearly flawless outing, the Ducks pulled out an 8-4 win. The 12th round draftee of the Chicago Cubs earned Cubs minor league pitcher of the year in 2005.
