TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (7-2, 47-32) open up a three-game series with the Bridgeport Bluefish (7-4, 37-44). Tonight marks game 11 of the 2016 Ferry Cup Series, with the Ducks winning eight of the previous 10. SUNDAY’S RESULT: The Ducks defeated the Patriots 7-5 on en route to a three-game sweep to remain in first place in the Second Half Liberty Division Standings.

Long Island scored the game’s opening runs in the bottom of the first inning. Fehlandt Lentini scored from third base on a passed ball, while Cody Puckett’s sacrifice fly scored Delta Cleary Jr. Two innings later, Anthony Vega scored from third base on an error and Puckett crushed a three-run home run, giving Long Island a 6-0 advantage.

Ducks starter Bruce Kern, who tossed five innings of two-hit ball, allowed his only two runs in fourth. David Vidal’s two-run blast did the damage for the Patriots, who cut the Ducks lead to 6-2. Somerset’s Eric Farris crushed a two-run homer in the eighth, making it 6-4, but Mark Minicozzi extended the Ducks lead to 7-4 with a solo home run in the eighth.

Against Long Island closer Todd Coffey, Somerset tallied one run in the ninth on Mycal Jones’ RBI single. Coffey responded by striking out Aharon Eggleston with runners at first and second to end the game.

Kern improved to 4-1, striking out four and allowing two walks. Bryce Morrow took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits and a walk in two and two-thirds innings.

Puckett tallied four RBIs, while Ruben Gotay collected two hits to lead Long Island.

ON THE MOUND: Left-hander Dustin Richardson makes his first start with Long Island. Joining the team on June 15, the Kansas native has appeared nine times out of the bullpen, posting a 1-0 record and an ERA of 4.05. The former 5th round draft selection of the Boston Red Sox in 2006 has made 84 professional starts. Richardson’s most recent start came on May 10, 2015 against the Springfield Cardinals in the Texas League. Pitching with the Tulsa Drillers, the Double-A affiliate of the Dodgers, Richardson tossed two innings of one-hit ball with one strikeout.

Riverhead, N.Y. native David Kubiak toes the rubber against the Ducks for the first time this season. In his fifth season with the Bluefish, Kubiak has started his past three games. The 6-foot-7 righty is 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA when making a start. The 26 year old, drafted out of SUNY Albany in the 36th round of the 2011 MLB Draft, defeated New Britain on July 10. On May 4, Kubiak had his contract purchased by the New York Yankees, making three relief appearances with the Trenton Thunder of the Eastern League (AA).
