GAME TIME/LOCATION: 7:05 p.m. Regency Furniture Stadium (Waldorf, MD).

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP:  The Long Island Ducks (2-1, 42-31) and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (0-4, 26-47) continue their four-game series with game two. The Ducks hold a 25-18 record against Freedom Division opponents, including a 9-2 record against the Blue Crabs. At Regency Furniture Stadium this season, the Ducks own a 3-1 record. If the Ducks win, Kevin Baez will win his 400th game, securing the all-time record.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Delta Cleary Jr. went 4-for-4 with three RBIs en route to a 5-3 Ducks win over the Blue Crabs.

Long Island scored the game’s first run in the opening inning on Cleary Jr.’s RBI single to left field. The Ducks took a 2-0 lead in the third on Cleary Jr.’s second RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth, against Ducks reliever Frank DeJiulio Jr., Southern Maryland tied the game at two on Zach Wilson’s two-run single off the top of the left field wall.

Mark Minicozzi’s solo home run to left center field gave the Ducks a 3-2 lead in the sixth, but the Blue Crabs tied the game in the bottom of the inning. With a runner at second base, Michael Snyder’s RBI single made it 3-3.

In the seventh inning, Cleary Jr.’s sacrifice fly drove in Anthony Vega, giving the Ducks a 4-3 advantage. They would extend the lead to 5-3 in the eighth on Cody Puckett’s run-scoring single to right field.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Long Island’s Kevin Vance struck out two and walked one over three scoreless innings. Southern Maryland’s Tim Sexton tossed five and two-thirds innings of eight-hit ball, allowing three runs with three strikeouts and three walks. Dustin Richardson earned the win, while Orlando Santos took the loss. Todd Coffey collected his 12th save with a scoreless ninth.

ON THE MOUND: Fresh off of his 41st-career win, the most in Ducks history, John Brownell toes the rubber for Long Island. In his past start, on Saturday against Sugar Land, Brownell pitched eight and one-third innings to clinch the First Half Liberty Division title for the Ducks. The right-hander allowed one run on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. The fifth-year Duck has one win and one loss against Southern Maryland this season. His past start against the Blue Crabs, a 2-1 loss on June 11, produced a season-high 10 strikeouts. Brownell tossed eight innings of six-hit ball, allowing two runs and a walk.

Southern Maryland’s Brian Grening makes his second start of 2016. The California native has made 25 appearances out of the bullpen but made his first start on July 3 against New Britain. Grening took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits in five innings. The righty struck out five and walked two. Against Long Island this season, Grening has pitched five and two-thirds innings allowing one run. In 2008, the Cleveland Indians selected Grening in the 38th round out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
