GAME TIME/LOCATION: 7:12 p.m. at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard (Bridgeport, CT)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: Long Island (32-27) continues the second half of it seven-game road trip with a four-game series against the Bridgeport Bluefish (26-33). The Ducks have beaten the Bluefish five out of six times as part of the 2016 Ferry Cup. Entering Thursday, Long Island trails first-place Somerset by two games in the Liberty Division, while Bridgeport sits eight games out of first.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: The York Revolution squeaked by the Ducks 2-1 to complete the three-game sweep.

Mike Dowd’s solo home run, his first as a Duck, put Long Island up 1-0 in the second inning. In the fifth, York tied the game on back-to-back singles. An eighth-inning solo homer Travis Witherspoon broke the 1-1 tie to round out the scoring.

John Brownell was the tough-luck loser, allowing two runs on seven hits over seven and one-third innings with nine strikeouts and one walk. York starter Frank Gailey did not factor into the decision despite seven strikeouts over seven innings. Reliever Scott Rice nabbed the victory.

Dowd amassed three hits while Fehlandt Lentini and Delta Cleary Jr. had hits for Long Island.

ON THE MOUND: Left-hander Darin Downs takes the baseball for Long Island. Downs (4-4, 4.50) ranks second in the Atlantic League in strikeouts with 69. After a 3-0 month of May, Downs has struggled in June. Over four starts, Downs is 1-3 with a 5.18 ERA, receiving around two runs from his offense per outing. The Florida native is looking to avenge his past meeting with the Bluefish on May 26 when he allowed eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits three and two-third innings.

D.J. Mitchell (2-1, 3.15) makes his third start of the season. The righty is in his third season with Bridgeport after time in the Yankees, Mariners, and Mets systems. Mitchell has recorded victories in each of his past two starts. Against York and New Britain, the North Carolina native has allowed four runs on 11 hits over 11 innings with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Thursday is Mitchell’s first head-to-head meeting with the Ducks.
