GAME TIME/LOCATION: 1:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TODAY’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (23-19) and the Sugar Land Skeeters (23-20) wrap up a three-game series on Long Island. The Ducks and Skeeters have split the head-to-head matchup this season as both sides have won three games.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Behind three-RBI nights from Dan Lyons and Cody Puckett, the Ducks topped the Skeeters, 7-3.

Lyons doubled in Fehlandt Lentini in the first inning, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Sugar Land tied the game in the third on an RBI single from Jeremy Barfield. In the fourth, Puckett crushed a two-run home run to left field to put Long Island ahead 3-1. After an RBI triple from Sugar Land’s Rene Tosoni in the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2, Lyons brought in two more runs with a double in the fifth.

Puckett netted his third RBI in the seventh to give the Ducks a 6-3 lead. Anthony Vega scored on a fielding error in the eighth to wrap up the scoring for the Ducks.

Mark Blackmar won his fourth game of the season with five and two-thirds innings of nine-hit ball. The 24-year-old surrendered two earned runs with six strikeouts and two walks. Sugar Land starter Aaron Thompson, a former Minnesota Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates reliever, was the losing pitcher.

The Ducks bullpen shut out the Skeeters in the final three and one-third innings. The combination of Patrick Crider, Frank DeJiulio Jr., Bruce Kern, and Todd Coffey struck out eight while allowing only one base runner (a walk).

Lyons had three hits, while Lentini, Puckett, and Vega had two-hit performances.

ON THE MOUND: John Brownell takes the mound one win shy of tying Randy Leek for most wins in Ducks history with 40. Brownell surpassed Leek’s career innings record on May 25 against Bridgeport in a 15-5 win. Brownell lost his past start, on Tuesday in Lancaster, giving up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. At home this season, Brownell is 2-0 with an ERA of 2.76 with 12 strikeouts and five walks in 16 and one-third innings.

Sugar Land gives the ball to former Colorado Rockies draft selection, Parker Frazier. The righty is 5-1 with a 4.12 ERA in eight starts for the Skeeters. Frazier’s lone loss came against the Ducks on May 19 in Texas when he gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk. The Tulsa, Okla. native is the son of George Frazier, who spent 10 seasons in the Majors with St. Louis, New York (AL), Cleveland, Chicago (NL), and Minnesota.
