GAME TIME/LOCATION: 7:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium (Lancaster, Pa.)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (22-17) look to avoid being swept in their three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers (20-18) at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Ducks still lead the season series three games to two over the Barnstormers. Long Island is tied for first place in the Liberty Division with the Somerset Patriots following their loss in Southern Maryland on Thursday, while Lancaster remains third in the Freedom Division, four games behind the in-state rival York Revolution.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: Lancaster made it two wins in a row over the Ducks and five wins in six games overall with an 8-4 victory in the middle game of the series.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Ducks responded with a three-run second inning to go in front. Tyler Colvin led off the frame with a solo home run to right field that cleared everything and, literally, left the ballpark. Anthony Vega followed later by grounding a two-out, two-run triple down the right field line off Barnstormers starter Terry Doyle.

The lead would not last long though. The Barnstormers answered right back with four runs in the bottom of the second off Ducks starter Darin Downs to take a 5-3 lead. Lance Zawadzki drove in a run with an infield single, Kevin Ahrens tied the game with an RBI double, and Josh Bell delivered a two-out two-run single to put Lancaster ahead. Mike Blanke launched a towering leadoff solo homer to left in the fourth, but that was as close as Long Island would come.

Mike McDade put the game further out of reach in the fifth with an opposite field two-run homer to right, and Charlie Cutler’s RBI single to right in the seventh rounded out the scoring. Doyle (2-2) picked up the win despite allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings while walking two and striking out three. Downs (3-2) suffered his second straight loss, yielding seven runs on eight hits and five walks with five strikeouts in five innings.

ON THE MOUND: The Ducks turn to Bobby Blevins to try and salvage the series finale. The right-hander enters with a record of 1-2 and a 4.62 ERA in seven starts. He took the loss in his most recent outing, on Friday against New Britain, despite turning in a quality start. The fifth-year Duck gave up three runs on seven hits over six and one-third innings while striking out six. Blevins tossed six innings of scoreless baseball back on May 5 against Lancaster in game one of a doubleheader, yielding just four hits while striking out four in Long Island’s 1-0 walk-off win. He made two starts against the ‘Stormers in 2015, both at Lancaster, and combined to allow eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits with 11 strikeouts in 11 innings.

The Barnstormers will have Bryan Evans toe the rubber. The righty is 2-2 on the season with a 3.61 ERA in eight games (seven starts). He took a no-decision on Saturday against Sugar Land, lasting just four and one-third innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Lancaster went on to win the game 7-4. Evans opposed Blevins on May 5 and suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings. He made one start against the Ducks in 2015 and surrendered 10 runs on 11 hits in four and one-third innings.
