TODAY’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (20-14) host the New Britain Bees (17-17) in a day/night doubleheader. Saturday marks games two and three of the four-game series. The Bees have won three of the four games against the Ducks this season.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: The Ducks were shutout for the first time this season, falling to New Britain 6-0. Bees starter Cole Johnson earned the win, tossing seven scoreless innings of seven-hit ball while striking out three. Long Island starter Bobby Blevins took the loss, dropping to 1-2 on the season. The Briarcliff, NY resident yielded three runs on seven hits over six and one-third innings with six strikeouts.

New Britain scored early on a pair of home runs. In the second inning, Craig Maddox homered to make it 1-0, and Jon Jones took Blevins deep in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bees scored four runs in the seventh inning, knocking Blevins out of the game. Ducks relievers Patrick Crider and Dan Blewett surrendered three runs. In total, New Britain cashed in on four consecutive RBI singles to take a 6-0 lead.

Lew Ford’s 2-for-4 night marked the sixth time in the past eight games that the veteran has had a multi-hit night. Ford also continued his hitting streak, extending it to nine consecutive games. Sean Burroughs extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games, the longest on the Ducks this season, and the longest active hitting streak in the Atlantic League. Fehlandt Lentini swiped his 12th base of the season. His .923 (12-for-13) stolen base percentage ranks second in the league.

ON THE MOUND (GAME 1): Jack Snodgrass (3-3, 4.01) toes the rubber for the Ducks having won three of his previous five starts. Snodgrass leads the Atlantic League with 44 strikeouts, two more than teammate Darin Downs. At Bethpage Ballpark this season, the Kentucky native owns a 3-0 record with a 2.00 earned run average. Snodgrass comes to Long Island after five seasons in the San Francisco farm system. In 2015, Snodgrass split time between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento.

New Britain counters with Josh Zeid (2-2, 4.26), a former big leaguer who pitched for the Houston in 2013 and 2014. The New Haven, Conn. native has won back-to-back starts, beating York and Southern Maryland. Over his past two outings, Zeid has struck out 12 over 12 innings, surrendered seven hits and five earned runs.

ON THE MOUND (GAME 2): Yaphank, NY native Bruce Kern searches for his first win of 2016. The Long Island right-hander has made three starts and has appeared four times out of the bullpen. Kern has no record, but has an ERA of 2.13. Kern has faced New Britain twice this season out of the bullpen. The right-hander combined to throw one inning of no-hit ball with one strikeout. In Kern’s last start, on May 18 against Sugar Land, the former Colorado farmhand tossed just two innings, surrendering one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Brandon Fry makes his first start of the season the Bees in game two. The 23-year-old has made seven appearances in relief this season. Fry has no record but an ERA of 2.84. He tossed one inning against the Ducks on April 27 in New Britain, giving up one run on one hit. The Ohio native pitched in the San Diego farm system from 2013-2015.
