TODAY’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (17-11) play the second of a three game set against the Liberty Division rival Somerset Patriots (19-10).

THURSDAY’S RESULT: The Ducks defeated the Patriots by a score of 9-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

The Ducks struck first, as in the top of the second inning, Mike Blanke hit an infield single to second base, scoring Sean Burroughs. The Patriots answered in the bottom of the inning, as Mycal Jones singled to score Matt Fields to tie the game at one. The Ducks responded quickly and forcefully though, as in the top of the third, Lew Ford singled to right field to score Fehlandt Lentini. After singles from Tyler Colvin and Burroughs loaded the bases, Cody Puckett doubled to left field, driving in Ford and Colvin. Blanke then hit a three-run home run to left, making the score 7-1 in favor of the Flock. Puckett would hit another single in the sixth, driving in Lentini and Ford. Somerset got a run in the eighth and one more in the ninth to push the game to its final score.

Darin Downs (3-1) dazzled on the mound, earning the win. Downs went eight complete innings, allowing just five hits, two runs, no walks, and a career high 11 strikeouts. The win marks Downs’ third in a row. Mickey Story (0-1) got the loss, tossing five full innings and allowing 12 hits, seven runs, walking none, and striking out six.

ON THE MOUND: Tonight, the Ducks turn to Bobby Blevins, while the Patriots go with Jeremy Horst. Blevins (1-1, 3.37 ERA) is coming off of a very good start against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in which he tossed six full innings, allowing just two runs on six hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.
