GAME TIME/LOCATION: 7:05 p.m. CST (8:05 EST) at Constellation Field (Sugar Land, TX)

TODAY’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (15-11) play the finale of a four-game set against the Sugar Land Skeeters (15-12) of the Freedom Division Thursday evening.

WEDNESDAY’S RESULT: The Ducks and Skeeters split a doubleheader on Wednesday at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. The Ducks won game one 3-0, and the Skeeters won game two, 2-1.

Offense was limited in the first game, but a big third inning proved to be all the Ducks needed to come away victorious. Ruben Gotay hit a deep line drive over the head of Skeeters right fielder Rene Tosoni, scoring both Cody Puckett and Sean Burroughs, putting Long Island ahead 2-0. Soon after, Fehlandt Lentini singled to drive in Gotay to push the score to its final, 3-0.

Long Island starter Mark Blackmar (3-1) earned the win in the first contest, with six shutout innings, allowing just four hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. Sean Gallagher (1-3) picked up the tough-luck loss despite lasting the entire game. Todd Coffey picked up his fifth save for the Ducks.

Long Island struck first in game two, as Blake Tekotte singled to drive in Puckett in the top of the second. In the bottom of the inning however, the Skeeters struck back with a run of their own, as Patrick Palmeiro would double to bring in Brooks Conrad to tie the game at one. Sugar Land would take the lead and the game two win with a single off Patrick Crider by Jeff Dominguez, scoring Wilfredo Rodriguez.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Andrew Johnston (2-0) got the win, pitching a clean inning of relief, and Dan Blewett (0-1) was handed the loss, pitching one-third of an inning, allowing one run on one hit. Skeeters closer Derrick Loop picked up his fifth save of the season.

ON THE MOUND: Tonight’s contest features John Brownell for the Ducks, and Parker Frazier for the Skeeters. Brownell (1-0) makes his fourth start for the Ducks, and has been sharp this season, pitching a total of 17.0 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 17 hits, five walks, and 15 strikeouts. In his most recent start against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Bethpage Ballpark, he threw six solid innings, allowing three runs (one earned), on three hits and one walk, with six strikeouts.

When Parker Frazier (4-0) takes the mound, the Skeeters are undefeated. They have won all five games that have seen the tall right-hander toe the rubber. In Frazier’s most recent start against the York Revolution, he pitched five complete innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks, with four strikeouts.
