JJ6A9096

GAME TIME/LOCATION: 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark (Central Islip, NY)

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP: The Long Island Ducks (3-6) host the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (2-7) in the third game of a four-game series and third meeting of 2016. The Ducks lead the season series two game to none.

YESTERDAY’S RESULT: The Ducks were led by a dominant start from Jack Snodgrass and an offensive onslaught in a 10-2 victory last night. With nine hits totaled and five walks drawn, the Flock’s first home stretch could not be off to a better start.

Snodgrass picked up his first win of the year with six strong innings on the mound, giving up two runs (one earned) and striking out a career-high nine Blue Crabs. Those two runs came in the second inning, as Kuan-Jen Chen doubled into the gap in right-center field to drive in Michael Snyder. He later scored on a throwing error from Mike Dowd trying to catch him off of third base. Snodgrass rebounded well, putting up zeros in the next four innings. Eury De La Rosa, Frank DeJiulio Jr., and Kevin Vance combined to strike out six more batters over the final three innings, giving up just two hits, walking only one.

The Ducks put up 10 runs, a season-high, in the rout. Fehlandt Lentini and Blake Tekotte led the offense, combining for three hits, four runs batted in, and four runs scored. Five runs came across for the Ducks in the bottom of the fifth inning that blew the game open with the Flock leading 5-2. Lew Ford was hit by a pitch to start the inning, moved to second after a single by Sean Burroughs, and was later brought in by a Dan Lyons single to left field. After Burroughs scored on a pass ball, Lentini came up with the big hit of the game, as he blasted a bases-clearing, three-run triple to left-center field.

ON THE MOUND: Mark Blackmar takes to the mound for the Ducks against Gaby Hernandez for the Blue Crabs. Blackmar was sharp in his first start, going five shutout innings and giving up only three hits and two walks while striking out three. His performance earned him the win in Long Island’s first victory of the year, a 5-2 decision on Monday at New Britain. The 24-year old pitcher joins the Flock after spending five seasons in affiliated ball combined with the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox organizations.

Hernandez started the season with an appearance out of the bullpen against the Bridgeport Bluefish. It did not go well for the righty, as he gave up five runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk. Southern Maryland eventually lost the game by a 9-3 margin. Hernandez is now in his fifth season with the Blue Crabs and went 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA in three starts with them last year. He eventually left the team to pitch in Taiwan. The 29-year-old was originally drafted by the New York Mets and has pitched for six different organizations in his career.
