Ducks vs. Black Sox: Round 1

Crawford-Baez-High-Five
It almost seemed like hurricane season arrived way too soon. After a glorious weekend of weather, with wall-to-wall sunshine and temperatures that ranged between 60 and 75 degrees, Mother Nature reared her ugly head on Monday. With rain falling throughout the day and gale force winds to go along with it, the first of two scheduled Spring Training games between the Long Island Ducks and the semi-pro Long Island Black Sox was postponed. So, rather than playing the games on Monday and Tuesday, they will now face each other on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s game will remain a 1:00 start time, but Wednesday’s has now been moved up to 10:00 a.m.

Tuesday’s game will be the first of the exhibition season without Trayvon Robinson. The outfielder/DH was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, making him the first 2015 Atlantic Leaguer to be signed by a Major League organization. It also marks the third consecutive year in which the Ducks have had a player signed during Spring Training (Quincy Latimore in 2014 and Mike Rivera in 2013). Robinson will report to the Triple-A Reno Aces after he spent all of 2014 with Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers organization. Robinson last reached the Major Leagues in 2012 with the Seattle Mariners.

As for those who will be playing, Ian Marshall will get his first action of the year on the mound. He is slated to be one of Manager Kevin Baez’s five starters this year after having two solid, consistent years with the Blue Crabs. In 2013, he was 12-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 27 starts. In 2014, he was 10-10 with a 4.09 ERA in 27 starts. Marshall is scheduled to toss three innings today before being followed by a host of relief pitchers. Here is Baez’s tentative schedule for today’s pitching staff:

RHP Ian Marshall – 3 Innings
LHP Tommy Organ – 4th Inning
LHP Patrick Crider – 5th Inning
LHP Carmine Giardina – 6th Inning
RHP Amalio Diaz – 7th Inning
RHP Hector Ambriz – 8th Inning
RHP Ryan Kussmaul – 9th Inning

#44 Bryan Sabatella – RF

#26 Jose Morales – C
#2   Cody Puckett – 3B
#33 Jon Griffin – 1B
#22 Blake Davis – 2B
