Game 95: Ducks vs Revolution
Rise and shine, Ducks fans!
Today marks the second and final Camp Day of the 2014 season at Bethpage Ballpark! The Duck Pond promises to be jumping with camps all across Long Island flocking to Central Islip to watch the Long Island Ducks try and complete a three-game sweep of the York Revolution. Camp Day always provides an extra spark at Bethpage Ballpark, and the Ducks are hoping to parlay that spark into their first series sweep since early July against the Camden Riversharks.
So far, the first two games of the series have been the two quickest nine-inning games of the year for the Long Island. After previously setting a season-record with a two hour 21 minute game on Saturday, the Ducks and Revs eclipsed that yesterday, finishing the ballgame in two hours and 13 minutes. In addition to the new Pace of Play initiative in the Atlantic League, a main reason why these games have been so short is due to excellent starting pitching from both sides. Saturday it was John Brownell and Corey Thurman putting on a show, while Bobby Blevins stole the show last night en route to a 4-1 Ducks victory.
Blevins earned his first win since July 4th against the Camden Riversharks last night with his first complete game effort of the year. Blevins went the distance, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts. After allowing a solo home run to Eric Patterson in the top of the first, the third-year Duck settled down, allowing just six baserunners over the rest of the game, with the Revs putting a runner in scoring position just twice. While Blevins was shining on the mound, Adam Bailey shined at the plate, driving in all four runs for the Flock in the ballgame. Bailey hit a two-out, three-run double in the third inning to give Long Island a 3-1 lead before increasing it to 4-1 in the fifth on his second RBI double of the game.

Today, the Ducks send Jared Lansford to the mound for his 17th start of the season. Lansford enters 4-3 overall with a 3.00 earned run average in 99 innings of work this season. Lansford’s 3.00 ERA ranks third in the Atlantic League behind Sugar Land’s David Pauley (2.79) and Lancaster’s Chris Schwinden (2.89). The righty has not lost in his last eight starts dating back to June 16th, all the while allowing more than three runs just twice in that span. In his last start, the third-year Duck went eight scoreless innings, yielding four hits and one walk with a season-high nine strikeouts.
Lansford will work against York righty Scott Gorgen today, who makes his 21st appearance (14th start) of the year. After beginning the season with the Camden Riversharks, Gorgen has appeared in nine games (five starts) with the Revolution. Overall, Gorgen enters today’s ballgame 3-7 with a 6.52 ERA. In four appearances against the Ducks this year, Gorgen is 1-0, having allowed 11 runs (nine earned) over 16 and one-third innings (4.96 ERA).
