5,078 fans passed through the turnstiles at Bethpage Ballpark last night and witnessed a complete showing from the Long Island Ducks. After dropping two-of-three to the Somerset Patriots over the weekend, Long Island bounced back in fine fashion with a 9-2 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Monday. After the game all the fans in attendance enjoyed a Pyrotechnico Fireworks Extravaganza. The Ducks look to win their second consecutive game against the Barnstormers tonight.

Last night, John Brownell, the 2013 Championship Series MVP, tossed his first complete game of the season. Brownell led the Atlantic League last year in complete games with seven. Against the Barnstormers yesterday, the right-handed starter allowed just two runs over nine innings of work on four hits, one walk and nine strikeouts. The nine strikeouts were a season high for any Ducks starter, while it also gives Brownell the league lead with 43.

Offensively, Long Island tallied nine runs on 14 hits, all in the first six innings of the ballgame. The Ducks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from Cody Puckett and an RBI double from Joash Brodin. A Keith Castillo walk, followed by a sacrifice fly from Dan Lyons extended the lead to 4-0 in the third. Two more runs in the fifth, followed by three in the sixth, provided the Ducks with their final five runs of the ballgame. Eight different Ducks recorded hits, including three-hit performances from Puckett and Brodin. Lyons drove in three runs, while Brodin pinched in a pair of RBI.

Bobby Blevins makes his eighth start of the season for Long Island tonight. Blevins enters with a 2-1 record, 3.77 ERA, 11 walks and 34 strikeouts in 45 and one-third innings. He will face off against Lancaster starter Chris Schwinden. After a brief stint in the Texas Rangers organization, Schwinden returns to the Barnstormers rotation with a 3-0 record and a 1.96 ERA in four Atlantic League starts earlier this year.

Here are tonight’s game notes:

Ducks vs. Barnstormers: Tonight marks the 11th meeting of the season between the Ducks and Barnstormers and the fifth of 10 games between the two on Long Island. The Barnstormers currently lead the series 6-4. Long Island and Lancaster have played 184 games against each other all-time, with the Ducks holding a 97-87 series lead and a 46-42 advantage at the Duck Pond.

On-Base Machines: Cody Puckett has now reached base in 25 consecutive games after collecting three hits on Monday. That ties him with Lew Ford for the longest streak in the Atlantic League this season Ford put together his streak from May 3 to 30. He has at least one hit in 22 of those 25 games. Joash Brodin has reached base in 23 straight games after picking up three hits Monday and falling a home run shy of the cycle.

On a Roll at the Plate: With two hits and a run scored in Monday’s game, Fehlandt Lentini has now earned at least one hit and one run in 10 of his last 11 games. Eight of those 10 games have been multi-hit contests. Lentini is currently second in the Atlantic League with 48 hits, two behind teammate Lew Ford, and with 16 stolen bases, one behind York’s Sean Smith.

The Hit Parade: Puckett earned his second consecutive three-hit night and third in the last four games on Monday. He now leads the Flock with 15 multi-hit games. Lentini picked up his 14th multi-hit contest of the season, Brodin collected his ninth and Brendan Harris earned his fourth.
