Top 5 Promotional Nights of 2014
Posted by liducks
Earlier today, the Ducks announced their 15th Anniversary Promotional Schedule, marking the first time this year that all of the giveaway dates and theme nights have been revealed by the team. The Ducks are scheduled to host 70 games at Bethpage Ballpark in 2014, and tickets go on sale Saturday at Bethpage Ballpark. Of those, 48 will feature either an item given away to fans as they enter the ballpark or a special theme that will highlight the night. However, out of the 22 not yet included on this list, six will feature the Friday night Pizza Hut K-Man promotion where fans can win an order of free breadsticks. In addition, two are on Saturdays where fans will receive a special offer from Dick’s Sporting Goods, and one is a Sunday Family Funday that features a pre-game autograph session and the always-popular postgame Kids Run the Bases. Add in those nine, and that makes 57 of 70 dates so far that will feature a promotion of some sort taking place.
The 2014 season will be a special one for the Ducks because it will feature two main themes taking place throughout the year. First and foremost, it will be the team’s 15th Anniversary Celebration. Several giveaway nights are already in place to honor this milestone season, and there will also be a special Legends Night at the ballpark during the summer to recognize the best players in team history. The other theme is that the Ducks are back-to-back Atlantic League champions after winning it all in 2012 and 2013. The promotional schedule will also feature a variety of dates where items honoring the championships will be handed out to fans.
There are so many exciting dates to choose from this season that it’s nearly impossible to narrow down to which stand out as the best. There are countless reasons to be at every game at the Duck Pond in 2014. However, we’ll do our best to pick the Top 5 that any Ducks or baseball fan should absolutely have tickets for. Here are our top choices to line up for on Saturday:
Bobbleheads are one of the most popular giveaway items every year at any ballpark. QuackerJack is the four-time “Best Mascot on Long Island” in the Long Island Press “Best of Long Island” awards. Put the two together, add in an Atlantic League championship trophy, and you’ve got a giveaway item that any Ducks fan, baseball fan or bobblehead collector would want. On July 22, Briarcliffe College will be handing out bobbleheads featuring everyone’s favorite mascot holding the 2013 championship trophy to the first 1,500 fans in attendance. Not only is there a great giveaway that night, but the Ducks will be hosting the Bridgeport Bluefish in a Ferry Cup Series match-up. The Ducks-Bluefish rivalry is always a good one, and that game could have a big impact on who wins the Ferry Cup in 2014. Overall, it should make for an exciting night at the Duck Pond.
Breast Cancer Awareness has been an incredibly important issue in recent years. Long Island has a plethora of organizations whose mission is to help find a cure as well as provide assistance and information for those about the dreaded disease. Every year, the Ducks put together one night that is a can’t-miss at the Duck Pond to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness. First, there are the giveaway items for fans (Commemorative T-Shirts to the first 1,500 and Commemorative Pamphlets to the first 5,000). Next, those in attendance will be able to stop by several tables on the main concourse featuring representatives from various Breast Cancer Awareness organizations around Long Island. Then, there are the special pink jerseys worn by Ducks players during the game and auctioned off throughout the night. Finally, a magnificent Fireworks Extravaganza will light the sky to cap a wonderful and meaningful night at the ballpark.
Throughout the past month and a half, Ducks fans have been voting weekly here on the blog for who they feel should earn a spot on the 15th Anniversary Team. So far, eight positions have been chosen, and seven more are up for grabs. By the end of this contest, 15 guys will make up the “Flock 15” team, and on May 18, those 15 will be featured in a special card set that goes out to the first 1,500 fans, courtesy of AARP. The Ducks have seen some incredibly talented players put on the uniform since the inaugural season of 2000. In fact, many of those great names will unfortunately be left off this list. However, this is sure to be a valuable collector’s item for Ducks fans of all ages as the best of the best in team history are forever remembered.
Sunday, August 17 at Bethpage Ballpark was going to be exciting without a special theme night. The Ducks and Patriots will play in an Atlantic League Championship Series rematch from a year ago. Fans will be allowed onto the field for a pre-game autograph session with the Ducks as well. Of course, we can’t forget that kids (and kids at heart) will also get to run the bases following the game. However, August 17 will be that much more special because it will be Legends Night at the Duck Pond. To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Long Island Ducks, the team will host a special pre-game ceremony to recognize the milestone. Special guests will be in attendance that day to take part in the festivities to commemorate some of the great players and moments from the first 15 seasons of Ducks baseball.
Opening Day or Night is almost always circled on any baseball fan’s calendar. It’s the start of the new season. It’s the first time you get to see your favorite team play after months of anticipation. For the Ducks in 2014, Opening Night on May 2 against the York Revolution will be a special one. The gates at Bethpage Ballpark will open at 6:05, and you’ll want to be there early because the first 1,500 fans in attendance will take home a Replica Championship Ring, courtesy of P.C. Richard and Son. The ones handed out last year (see photo above) were pretty impressive, and this year’s version will not disappoint either. But that’s not where the fun ends! Prior to first pitch, which is slated for 7:05, the team will hold a Championship Ring and Banner Raising Ceremony on the field. Members of the 2013 championship team will receive their official rings to celebrate the title, and the official championship banner will be raised atop the scoreboard in left-center field. Those who were on hand on April 26, 2013 will forever remember how special the ceremony to honor the 2012 champions was. Now, the celebration will be twice as nice!
Don’t forget Ducks fans, tickets for all of the promotional dates and every regular season Ducks home game will go on sale this Saturday, March 22 at the Bethpage Ballpark box office beginning at 10:00 a.m. There is a ton of exciting entertainment lined up for the day, including the Wiseman and Frank from B-103 emceeing, an appearance by Peppa Pig and the band Tony K. and Broadway playing live on the plaza! More information about all of the fun taking place can be found by CLICKING HERE. The 15th Anniversary Season is sure to be a memorable one for everyone, and the unofficial start to the historic year will be this Saturday. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Duck Pond!
