Ducks Take Part in Annual Tradition

The Long Island Ducks have been around since 2000. 2014 will be the 15th Anniversary Season for a team that has become a significant part of the Long Island community. The name Ducks stems from the many Duck farms across Long Island and of course, the famous “Big Duck” located in Flanders. That Duck is one of the most famous sites to visit around the area. It’s been around for over 80 years and in its current location for 25 years.

On Thursday night, the Long Island Ducks visited the “Big Duck” as they do every year around holiday time to take part in its annual lighting. QuackerJack made the trek out East from Bethpage Ballpark to join families from all over Long Island for the celebration. In keeping the tradition alive, QJ joined a local school in singing Christmas carols and welcomed Santa Claus to the festivities as well. Throughout the night, Long Island’s favorite mascot was taking pictures with all of those in attendance as well.

The holidays are always an exciting time for the Ducks, and this past week, the Flock also took part in other annual events to celebrate. On Saturday, November 30, the Ducks Street Team and QuackerJack took to the streets of Long Island to take part in a pair of holiday parades. The morning featured a stroll down Main Street in Sayville while the evening saw the Ducks float ride down Main Street in Patchogue. Atop the float was the Atlantic League championship trophy along with QJ, president and general manager Michael Pfaff, manager Kevin Baez and co-owner/coach Bud Harrelson. Each of them tossed t-shirts to lucky fans in the crowd and wished everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.

The fun will continue this coming Saturday, December 7. Come see QuackerJack along with Santa Claus, Kevin Baez and Bud Harrelson when they help open the Waddle In Shop for the holiday season. The doors open at 10:00 a.m., which is also when the annual toy drive for children spending the holidays in the hospital will kick off. Then, at 2:00, QJ and the Duck Street Team will head to Main Street in Islip for the annual holiday parade. Join the Flock for another day of fun and celebration this Saturday and help spread the spirit of winter across Long Island!
